Product FAQs
7 answers
Which Siemens panelboards are compatible with the 3VA5180-6ED21-0AA0?
This 3VA51 frame breaker is compatible with Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards, as well as Siemens switchboards. You will need the appropriate 3VA mounting strap kit or hardware specific to your panelboard type for installation.
Can this 80A breaker be used in DC power systems?
Yes, it is rated for use in DC applications up to 250VDC, providing a 100kAIC interrupting rating. This makes it suitable for industrial DC control circuits, solar, and battery storage applications.
Is this breaker rated for straight 600V delta systems?
No. The 25kAIC rating at 600V is a slash rating (600Y/347V), meaning it is only approved for use on solidly grounded wye systems where the voltage to ground does not exceed 347V. It cannot be used on ungrounded or corner-grounded 600V delta systems.
What does the fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit mean for installation?
The fixed thermal and fixed magnetic (LI) trip unit provides factory-set Long-Time and Instantaneous protection. Because there are no adjustable dials, installation is simplified for standard distribution circuits that do not require precise trip curve coordination.
Does this breaker support reverse feeding?
Yes, Siemens 3VA5 thermal-magnetic circuit breakers are UL listed for reverse feed applications, allowing flexibility in how line and load connections are wired in the panel.
What wire types are compatible with the terminal lugs?
This breaker is configured for lug connections. When equipped with standard Siemens 3VA Cu/Al lug kits, it accepts both copper and aluminum conductors. Always check the specific lug stamping for approved wire sizes and torque values.
Is the 3VA51 frame a direct drop-in replacement for legacy ED frame breakers?
While the 3VA5 series is the modern upgrade for older Siemens ED frames, they do not share the exact same physical dimensions. When retrofitting an older panel, you must use a 3VA-specific mounting kit rather than reusing the legacy ED strap.
