Part of the BLH series, this 80-amp, two-pole thermal-magnetic breaker provides reliable overcurrent protection for commercial and industrial systems. It mounts into Siemens P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 panelboards, offering a robust bolt-on connection for secure power distribution. Rated at 22kAIC for 120/240VAC circuits, the unit features a HACR rating for HVAC applications and accepts 4-1/0 AWG copper or 2-1/0 AWG aluminum wire.
Which panelboards accept the Siemens B280H circuit breaker?
The B280H is designed specifically for commercial and industrial distribution and fits Siemens and legacy ITE P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 series panelboards. It features a bolt-on connection and will not fit standard residential plug-on load centers.
Can the Siemens B280H replace an older ITE B280H?
Yes. Siemens acquired ITE and continues to manufacture this breaker line. The current Siemens B280H is the direct, manufacturer-approved replacement for the legacy ITE B280H, maintaining the same physical footprint and bolt-on mounting.
What does the H in the B280H catalog number signify?
The H designates this as a BLH series breaker with a high interrupting capacity of 22kAIC at 120/240VAC. For comparison, the standard B280 (BL series) is rated at 10kAIC, and the B280HH (HBL series) is rated at 65kAIC. Always verify that the breaker's interrupting rating meets your system's available fault current.
Can the Siemens B280H breaker be reverse fed?
Yes. Because the B280H features a non-removable thermal-magnetic trip unit, it is UL 489 listed and suitable for reverse feed applications.
What is the difference between a plug-on breaker and this bolt-on B280H?
Plug-on breakers snap onto the bus bar using spring clips and are typically used in residential load centers. The B280H is a bolt-on breaker that physically screws into the panelboard bus, providing a highly secure, vibration-resistant connection required for commercial and industrial distribution.
Does the B280H breaker include ground fault or arc fault protection?
No. The B280H is a standard thermal-magnetic circuit breaker designed for overload and short-circuit protection. It does not include GFCI or AFCI features.
