Which Siemens panelboards are compatible with the HFD63B090 breaker?
This breaker is designed for use in Siemens Sentron P1, P2, and P3 panelboards, as well as compatible switchboards and motor control centers.
What is the difference between the Siemens FD63B090 and HFD63B090?
The HFD63B090 is the high-interrupting version of the standard FD6 frame. It provides a higher interrupting rating of 65kA at 480VAC, compared to the standard 35kA rating of the FD63B090.
What wire sizes do the standard lugs on the HFD63B090 accept?
The factory lugs accept 6 AWG to 350 kcmil copper wire, or 4 AWG to 350 kcmil aluminum wire. The standard lug kit for this frame is the TA1FD350A.
Is the trip unit on this 90A breaker adjustable?
The HFD63B090 features a thermal-magnetic trip unit with a fixed thermal element for long-time overload protection and an adjustable magnetic element for instantaneous short-circuit protection.
Can this breaker replace an older ITE HFD63B090?
Yes, Siemens acquired ITE, and the current Siemens HFD63B090 is the direct replacement for the legacy ITE HFD63B090. They share the same physical dimensions, mounting, and electrical characteristics.
Does the HFD63B090 mount to a DIN rail?
No, this is a bolt-on molded case circuit breaker designed to be bolted directly to the busbar in compatible panelboards and switchboards. It is not DIN rail mountable.
Can the HFD63B090 be used in DC applications?
Yes, this breaker is rated for DC applications up to 500VDC, with an interrupting capacity of 25kA. When applying a 3-pole breaker on 500VDC systems, the power supply must be connected in a series zig-zag configuration across the poles to uniformly distribute the voltage.
Can the HFD63B090 be reverse fed?
No. Because the HFD63B090 features an interchangeable trip unit, it is marked with Line and Load designations to comply with UL 489 standards and cannot be reverse fed. For reverse-feed applications, a non-interchangeable frame such as the HFXD63B090 is required.
Is the HFD63B090 100% rated for continuous loads?
No, this is a standard 80% rated circuit breaker. For continuous loads lasting 3 hours or more, the continuous current must not exceed 80% of its 90A rating, which is 72A.
