This Type QP breaker is approved for installation in Siemens PL and ES series load centers, as well as compatible Siemens panelboards. It is also backward compatible with many legacy ITE and Murray 3-phase enclosures that accept QP frames. Always verify approval on your specific panel door label.
Can I install this 3-pole breaker in a standard single-phase residential panel?
No. The Q380 requires three busbar connections and will not physically attach or operate correctly in a standard 120/240V single-phase load center. It must be installed in a 3-phase electrical panel.
What are the recommended torque values for the terminal lugs?
For copper or aluminum conductors, tighten 4 AWG wire to 45 inch-pounds. For 3 AWG through 2/0 AWG conductors, increase the torque to 50 inch-pounds to ensure a secure and code-compliant connection.
Can I use this Siemens breaker in a GE or Square D panel?
No. Siemens Type QP circuit breakers have distinct physical dimensions and busbar connections. They are not UL-listed for use in GE, Square D QO, or Homeline panels. Mixing brands without verified cross-classification can lead to failed electrical inspections and safety hazards.
What is the maximum continuous load permitted on this 80-amp breaker?
The Q380 is a standard thermal-magnetic breaker rated for 80 percent continuous duty. For continuous loads operating for three hours or more, the maximum sustained current should not exceed 64 amps to prevent nuisance tripping.
Is this breaker rated for HVAC equipment?
Yes. The Q380 is HACR rated, meaning it is certified for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems that require up to 80 amps of 3-phase protection.

Expedited Shipments
