What is the difference between the Siemens HND6 and SHND6 circuit breakers?
The HND6 series uses a traditional thermal-magnetic trip unit, while the SHND6 series features a Sensitrip solid-state electronic trip unit for more precise, adjustable protection. Both share the same physical ND-frame footprint.
Which Siemens panelboards and switchboards are compatible with the SHND69120A?
This ND-frame breaker is designed for use in Siemens P5 panelboards, S5 power panels, and Sentron switchboards.
Do I need a specific strap kit to mount this breaker in a P5 panelboard?
Yes. When installing a unit-mount ND-frame breaker like the SHND69120A into a Siemens P5 panelboard or switchboard, a dedicated copper strap kit is required for proper mounting and bus connection.
Is the SHND69120A suitable for reverse feed applications?
Yes. The electronic trip unit and breaker design are acceptable for reverse connection applications, allowing power to be fed from either the line or load side.
What lug kits are compatible with this 1200A ND-frame breaker?
For standard 250 to 500 kcmil copper or aluminum wire, the Siemens 3TA4N8500 4-barrel lug kit is commonly used. For larger 500 to 750 kcmil conductors, the 3TA2N8750 2-barrel lug kit is compatible.
What does the LI designation mean on the SHND69120A trip unit?
The LI code indicates that the electronic trip unit includes adjustable Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) trip functions, allowing you to fine-tune the overload and short-circuit response.
Can the trip settings on the SHND69120A be adjusted in the field?
Yes. The Sensitrip electronic trip unit features adjustable dials for both continuous current (Long-Time) and short-circuit (Instantaneous) pickup levels to match your specific load requirements.
Does this breaker provide ground fault protection?
No. The LI trip unit on the SHND69120A only provides Long-Time and Instantaneous protection. It does not include Ground Fault (G) protection. If equipment ground fault protection is required, a breaker with an LIG or LSIG trip unit is necessary.
