Description

Built for heavy-duty commercial use, the Square D FC34025 is a 3-pole, 25A molded case circuit breaker from the legacy F-Frame family. It utilizes thermal-magnetic trip technology to protect industrial electrical systems against overloads and short circuits. This component installs into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. As an older series, it crosses over to the modern HJA36025 for facility updates.

Product FAQs

8 answers
How does the FC34025 mount into the electrical panel?

This breaker utilizes the Square D I-Line plug-in connection system. Instead of bolting directly to the bus, the line side features jaws that push directly onto the panelboard busbars. This design reduces installation time and allows for easier phase balancing in compatible switchboards.

How are the conductors connected to the FC34025?

Because it is an I-Line breaker, the line side connects directly to the panelboard bus via plug-on jaws. The load side includes factory-installed mechanical lugs that accept 14 AWG to 4 AWG copper or aluminum wire for terminating the branch circuit.

Can I install this I-Line breaker in a standard bolt-on or DIN rail panel?

No, the FC34025 is exclusively compatible with Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. The proprietary plug-in jaw design will not safely or physically connect to busbars from other manufacturers or standard bolt-on enclosures.

Can the FC34025 be used on a 240V or 208V system instead of 480V?

Yes. While the FC34025 is rated for a maximum of 480VAC, it is fully compatible with 240V and 208V electrical systems. When applied at these lower voltages, the interrupting capacity increases from 65kA to 100kA, providing enhanced short-circuit protection.

How does the FC34025 compare to the FA34025 or FH34025 breakers?

While they share the same physical dimensions and 25-amp 3-pole configuration within the legacy F-Frame family, the FC34025 features a much higher interrupting rating. The FC series is rated for 65kA at 480VAC, compared to 18kA for the FA34025 and 25kA for the FH34025, making it the required choice for systems with elevated available fault currents.

Are the thermal and magnetic trip settings adjustable on this model?

No, the trip mechanism is fully fixed. Both the long-time thermal overload protection and the instantaneous magnetic short-circuit protection are factory calibrated for 25 amps and cannot be adjusted in the field.

Is the FC34025 part of a legacy breaker series?

Yes, this model belongs to the legacy Square D F-Frame family. While Schneider Electric has introduced the PowerPact B-Frame and H-Frame series for new designs, the FC34025 remains essential for maintaining or expanding existing I-Line panelboards without requiring a full panel upgrade.

What safety procedures are required when installing an I-Line breaker?

Although I-Line plug-on breakers are designed to physically snap onto the bus, you must follow NFPA 70E safety protocols and completely de-energize the panelboard or switchboard prior to installation. Proper lockout-tagout procedures and personal protective equipment are mandatory for electrical safety.
