Description

Part of Square D's legacy F-Frame series, the FHL36045 serves as a 3-pole, 45A MCCB for industrial distribution. It delivers reliable long-time and instantaneous (LI) thermal-magnetic protection against overcurrents. This unit-mount breaker installs into Square D enclosures and switchboards. When upgrading, it crosses over to the PowerPact HGL36045 (retrofit kit required). Rated 25kAIC at 480VAC, it handles demanding fault currents and includes an HACR rating for HVAC applications.

Product FAQs

6 answers
What type of panels or enclosures is the FHL36045 compatible with?

The FHL36045 is a unit-mount, feed-thru F-frame breaker designed for use in Square D enclosures, switchboards, and motor control centers. It bolts directly to the mounting surface and is not compatible with I-Line plug-on panelboards.

How are wire connections made on the FHL36045?

The breaker comes standard with factory-installed mechanical lugs on both the line and load sides. These lugs accept 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG copper or aluminum conductors.

Is the Square D FHL36045 obsolete, and what is the modern replacement?

Yes, the legacy F-frame series has been discontinued by Schneider Electric. The recommended modern replacement is the PowerPact H-frame series, specifically the HGL36045, which meets or exceeds the original interrupting ratings and mounts in similar applications.

Can the FHL36045 be used in DC applications?

Yes, this thermal-magnetic breaker is rated for up to 250VDC with an interrupting capacity of 10kA. This makes it suitable for specific direct current control circuits and battery systems.

Does the FHL36045 feature adjustable trip settings?

No, this breaker features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit with factory-set long-time and instantaneous protection. It does not have adjustable trip dials.

Is the FHL36045 interchangeable with FAL or FCL breakers?

Yes, the FHL36045 shares the same physical F-frame dimensions as FAL and FCL breakers. It can physically replace an FAL36045 to provide a higher interrupting capacity of 25kA at 480VAC.
