Part of the legacy I-Limiter series, this 225A molded case circuit breaker provides robust overcurrent protection for commercial and industrial facilities. It is specifically designed to restrict let-through energy during severe fault conditions. This three-pole breaker mounts into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. For newer installations, it has been replaced by the JRA36225 model. Rated at an impressive 200 kAIC at 480V, it features an adjustable magnetic trip mechanism.

What type of panelboards accept the IK36225 breaker?
This breaker is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It utilizes a specialized plug-on jaw connection for the line side and will not fit in standard NQ, NF, or QO load centers.
What is the benefit of the current-limiting feature on the IK36225?
As a current-limiting breaker, it is engineered to clear high-level short circuits extremely fast, typically within a half-cycle. This drastically reduces the peak let-through current and energy, providing enhanced protection for downstream electrical components and wiring.
How is the line-side connection made on this I-Line breaker?
The IK36225 features a plug-on jaw connection that mounts directly onto the bus stack of an I-Line panelboard. The breaker is then secured with a mounting bracket, while the load side uses standard mechanical lugs for wire termination.
How does the adjustable magnetic trip function on this breaker?
The IK36225 features a thermal-magnetic trip unit with a fixed thermal (overload) setting and an adjustable magnetic (instantaneous short-circuit) setting. Adjusting the magnetic dial allows electricians to coordinate the breaker with other protective devices and prevent nuisance tripping from motor inrush currents.
Is the IK36225 part of a current or legacy product line?
The IK frame is classified as a legacy molded case circuit breaker by Square D. While newer installations often utilize the PowerPact series, the IK36225 remains fully compatible as a direct replacement in existing I-Line panelboards.
What does the LI trip function code indicate on this breaker?
The LI designation means the breaker provides Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. The Long-Time function protects against sustained overloads, while the Instantaneous function protects against sudden short circuits.
Are the load-side lugs on the IK36225 rated for aluminum wiring?
Yes, the factory-installed mechanical lugs are dual-rated for both aluminum and copper conductors. They accept wire sizes from 4 AWG up to 350 kcmil.
