What does the 1021 suffix indicate on the KC342251021 circuit breaker?
The 1021 suffix designates that this breaker includes a factory-installed 120/240VAC shunt trip, allowing for remote tripping capabilities.
What is the modern replacement for the legacy Square D KC342251021?
This legacy K-Frame breaker is commonly replaced by the modern PowerPact J-Frame equivalent, catalog number JJA36225. To replicate the remote tripping function of the 1021 suffix, a compatible 120/240VAC shunt trip accessory must be added to the replacement breaker.
Can the KC342251021 be used in standard NEMA enclosures or load centers?
No. This breaker features an I-Line style plug-in connection and is designed exclusively for use in Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It cannot be unit-mounted or installed in standard QO or Homeline load centers.
What does the LI trip function code indicate on this breaker?
The LI code signifies that the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides Long-Time (L) overload protection and Instantaneous (I) short-circuit protection. The thermal element is fixed, while the magnetic instantaneous trip point is adjustable to suit specific application requirements.
How is the factory-installed shunt trip typically utilized in safety systems?
The integrated 120/240VAC shunt trip allows the breaker to be opened remotely via an external control signal. This is frequently used to tie the breaker into emergency shutoff circuits, elevator controls, or fire suppression interlocks.
What type of conductors can be used with the KC342251021 lugs?
The included lugs are rated for both aluminum and copper (Al/Cu) conductors ranging from 4 AWG to 350 kcmil. Ensure proper torque specifications are followed during installation to maintain a secure connection.
