Delivering 225 amps of thermal-magnetic protection, this 3-pole K-Frame breaker is engineered for demanding industrial power distribution. Designed for Square D I-Line panelboards, it features a plug-on connection. This legacy model is replaced by the JRA36225, which also requires a 120V shunt trip and aux switch. Standout features include a factory-installed 120VAC shunt trip and 1A/1B auxiliary switch. Rated 200kAIC at 480VAC, its current-limiting design protects downstream equipment.

What does the -1380 suffix mean on the KI36225-1380?
The -1380 suffix indicates that this breaker includes a factory-installed 120VAC shunt trip and a 1A/1B auxiliary switch. This configuration allows for remote tripping and circuit status signaling.
What is the modern replacement for the legacy KI36225-1380?
The KI frame is obsolete. For new installations or upgrades requiring a 225A, 600V I-Line breaker with a 200kAIC rating at 480V, the Square D PowerPact J-Frame series, specifically the JRA36225, is the direct replacement. Note that you will also need to specify the equivalent shunt trip and auxiliary switch accessories for the PowerPact frame.
How does the LI trip unit operate on this K-Frame breaker?
The LI designation stands for Long-Time and Instantaneous protection. The long-time thermal element provides fixed overload protection, while the instantaneous magnetic element is adjustable, allowing electricians to fine-tune the short-circuit response based on the specific load characteristics.
How is the KI36225-1380 secured inside an I-Line panelboard?
The breaker features plug-on jaws that grip the panelboard bus bars directly. Once seated on the bus stack, it is mechanically secured to the panelboard deadfront or backpan using a retaining bracket and mounting screw.
Can this breaker be used in standard Square D load centers?
No. The KI36225-1380 features an I-Line style plug-in connection and is exclusively compatible with Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It will not fit in QO or Homeline load centers.
What does it mean that the KI36225-1380 is a current-limiting breaker?
As a current-limiting breaker, it is designed to clear short circuits in less than half a cycle. This rapid response significantly reduces the peak let-through current and thermal energy that downstream equipment is exposed to during a fault.
