Designed for high-capacity distribution, the Q432400 is a 400-amp, 3-pole molded case circuit breaker from Square D. It utilizes a proven thermal-magnetic trip unit to deliver long-time and instantaneous (LI) protection against overloads and short circuits. This Q4 frame breaker is built specifically for Square D I-Line panelboards, utilizing a plug-on line connection for efficient installation. It carries a 25kAIC rating at 240VAC and includes a push-to-trip button for manual testing.
What panelboards are compatible with the Q432400 circuit breaker?
This breaker is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It features a plug-on line connection that mounts directly to the I-Line bus stack.
What is the difference between the Square D Q432400 and the LA36400?
Both are 400A, 3-pole I-Line circuit breakers that share the same physical footprint. However, the Q432400 is rated for a maximum of 240VAC, while the LA36400 is rated for up to 600VAC.
How much mounting space does the Q432400 require in an I-Line panel?
As a 3-pole Q4 frame breaker, it requires 4.5 inches of bus mounting space in a Square D I-Line panelboard.
What is the adjustable magnetic trip range for the Q432400?
The adjustable instantaneous magnetic trip function on this 400A breaker can be set between 2000A on the low setting and 4000A on the high setting to coordinate with your system short circuit protection requirements.
What are the lug wire size and torque requirements for this breaker?
The load side lugs accept either one 1 AWG to 600 kcmil or two 1 AWG to 250 kcmil aluminum or copper conductors. The recommended tightening torque is 115 lb-in.
Is the Q432400 a current model or a legacy frame?
The Q4 frame is a legacy Square D molded case circuit breaker. For new installations or major upgrades, facilities often transition to the modern PowerPact L-frame equivalent, such as the LIL36400, though the Q432400 remains widely used for direct replacements.
Does the Q432400 include a push-to-trip feature?
Yes, it includes a push-to-trip button on the faceplate. This allows you to manually trip the breaker to verify the mechanical operation of the tripping mechanism without exposing personnel to live parts.
