8 answersWhich panelboards accept the EHB3050 circuit breaker?
The EHB3050 is an E-Frame bolt-on MCCB designed specifically for legacy Westinghouse and Cutler-Hammer industrial panelboards and switchboards. It will not fit in standard residential plug-on or bolt-on load centers.
What do the Long-Time and Instantaneous (LI) trip functions protect against?
The fixed thermal (Long-Time) component prevents wiring from overheating during sustained low-level overloads, while the magnetic (Instantaneous) component clears the circuit immediately when it detects a high-current short circuit.
What wire types and sizes are compatible with the load lugs?
The factory-installed lugs accept both copper and aluminum conductors ranging from 14 AWG to 2 AWG. Installers must ensure connections are properly torqued to the specifications printed on the breaker label to avoid high-resistance thermal failures.
Can I use an Eaton EHB3050 to replace an older Westinghouse unit?
Yes. Eaton acquired the Westinghouse electrical distribution equipment line. A modern Eaton or Cutler-Hammer breaker with the EHB3050 catalog number is a direct drop-in replacement for older Westinghouse versions, maintaining identical E-Frame dimensions and trip curves.
Does this breaker require a separate mounting kit to install?
No aftermarket adapters are required. The EHB3050 is a direct bolt-on device that connects directly to the bus structure of compatible legacy panelboards.
Is it safe to install the EHB3050 in a DC power application?
No. Using an AC-only breaker in a direct current application is a severe safety hazard because DC arcs are much harder to extinguish. This breaker is not rated for DC voltage and must only be used in alternating current systems.
Why does the short-circuit rating change on different systems?
Interrupting capacity (AIC) is voltage-dependent. While the EHB3050 can safely clear a 65kA fault on a 240V system, its capacity is reduced to 14kA on 480Y/277V systems due to the higher electrical potential during an arc event.
Can I adjust or swap out the trip unit on the EHB3050?
No. This breaker is manufactured with a non-interchangeable, fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip unit. If the electrical system requires a different amperage or trip curve, the entire circuit breaker must be replaced.

Expedited Shipments
