Product FAQs
7 answers
What load centers are compatible with the ABB / General Electric TQ1140?
The TQ1140 is UL classified specifically for use in Square D QO load centers. It is not designed for standard GE Powermark Gold panels, which typically require THQL or THQP breakers.
Which Square D circuit breaker does the TQ1140 replace?
This GE TQ series breaker is a direct, UL classified replacement for the Square D QO140. It provides the same 40-amp, single-pole protection for QO panelboards.
How does the TQ1140 mount into the panel?
It features a plug-on connection type that snaps directly onto the busbar of a Square D QO load center. The load wire is secured using the integrated box lug.
What are the wire size requirements for the TQ1140 terminals?
The box lugs accommodate wire gauges from 8 AWG up to 3 AWG. The terminals are rated for use with both aluminum and copper (Al/Cu) conductors.
What type of protection does the TQ1140 thermal-magnetic trip unit provide?
The fixed thermal-magnetic mechanism includes long-time and instantaneous (LI) trip functions. The thermal component responds to prolonged overloads, while the magnetic component trips immediately during a short circuit.
What does the 10kAIC interrupting rating mean for this breaker?
The 10kAIC rating indicates that the breaker can safely interrupt up to 10,000 amps of fault current at 120V without failing or causing a safety hazard.
Is it safe to use a GE TQ breaker in a Square D panel?
Yes. The TQ series is UL classified to replace specific Square D QO breakers. This means Underwriters Laboratories has tested and approved it to perform safely and correctly in those specific competitor load centers.
