Utilizing a dedicated B-C phase jaw, this 150-amp molded case circuit breaker facilitates proper load distribution across commercial electrical systems. It integrates smoothly into Square D I-Line panelboards, offering reliable thermal-magnetic trip functions for standard applications. While eventually replaced by the PowerPact QBA22150 model, this legacy Q2 frame maintains a 10kA short circuit current rating and includes the highly visible Visi-Trip indicator.
What does the BC suffix indicate on the Q221150BC catalog number?
The BC designates the specific phase connection for the I-Line bus. This breaker is configured to connect to the B and C phases, allowing panel builders to properly balance the load across the electrical system.
What is the current replacement for the legacy Q221150BC circuit breaker?
The Q221150BC is a legacy Q2 frame breaker that has been superseded by the Square D PowerPact Q-Frame series. The direct modern replacement is the QBA22150, which maintains the same 150A rating and 2-pole I-Line configuration.
Can I install the Q221150BC in a standard Square D QO load center?
No, this breaker is specifically designed for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It uses a specialized plug-on I-Line connection that is not compatible with standard QO or Homeline residential load centers.
How is the Q221150BC secured to the panelboard bus?
It utilizes the Square D I-Line plug-on mounting system. The breaker jaws push directly onto the panelboard bus stack, requiring no additional bolt-on hardware or cable connections for the line side.
Are the thermal and magnetic trip functions adjustable on this breaker?
No, the Q221150BC features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. The long-time and instantaneous trip settings are factory calibrated and cannot be adjusted in the field.
Does this breaker provide a visual indication when it trips?
Yes, it includes the Square D Visi-Trip feature. When a fault causes the breaker to trip, a bright red indicator appears in the window, allowing electricians to quickly identify the tripped breaker in a crowded panel.
