What is the difference between the JJL36150 and JJA36150 breakers?
Both are 150A, 3-pole PowerPacT J-Frame breakers, but their mounting styles differ. The JJL36150 is a unit-mount breaker that includes line and load lugs for cabled installations. The JJA36150 features an I-Line plug-on termination for the line side, specifically for use in Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards.
What is the acceptable wire range and tightening torque for the JJL36150 terminals?
The factory-installed AL175JD lugs accept one 4 AWG to 4/0 AWG aluminum or copper wire per terminal. The standard tightening torque for these lugs is 221 lb-in to ensure a secure electrical connection.
What are the magnetic short-circuit trip settings for this 150A breaker?
The JJL36150 utilizes a thermal-magnetic trip unit with a fixed thermal rating and an adjustable magnetic pickup. The magnetic hold current is rated at 750A, and the magnetic trip current is factory set at 1500A.
Is the JJL36150 circuit breaker suitable for reverse-feed applications?
Yes. Because it is a unit-mount breaker with standard lugs on both the line and load sides, the JJL36150 is UL Listed for reverse-fed installations without requiring any special modifications.
Can I install the JJL36150 as a branch breaker in an I-Line panelboard?
No. The JJL36150 is designed for unit-mount applications and does not have the required plug-on jaw connections. You must source the JJA36150 if you are mounting directly onto an I-Line bus.
Is this PowerPacT J-Frame breaker rated for 100% continuous duty?
No, this model carries a standard 80% continuous current rating. In accordance with National Electrical Code guidelines, the maximum continuous load applied to this breaker should not exceed 120A.
Can this breaker be used to protect heating and cooling equipment?
Yes. The JJL36150 carries an HACR rating, ensuring it is tested and approved for the unique inrush currents and operational demands of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
What type of enclosures or panels are compatible with the JJL36150?
This unit-mount breaker is typically installed in Square D NF panelboards, switchboards, or individual industrial enclosures that accommodate a J-Frame footprint with line and load lug terminations.
