Engineered for commercial applications, the Siemens BE230 provides reliable ground-fault equipment protection (GFEP). This 2-pole, 30A molded case circuit breaker protects machinery from damaging line-to-ground faults. Featuring a secure bolt-on mounting style, this breaker installs into Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards. It serves as a predecessor to the newer B230EG model. Rated for 120/240VAC with a 10kAIC capacity, the unit features a 30mA trip sensitivity and is HACR rated.
Which Siemens panelboards accept the BE230 circuit breaker?
This breaker is compatible with Siemens P1, P2, and P3 series commercial panelboards. It uses a bolted connection to the bus bar and will not fit standard residential plug-on load centers.
What is the ground fault sensitivity of the BE230?
The BE230 features a 30mA ground fault trip threshold. It is classified as Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) to safeguard machinery and heat trace systems without the nuisance tripping associated with 5mA personnel-protection GFCIs.
What is the plug-on equivalent for the Siemens BE230?
The Siemens QE230 is the plug-on equivalent. It provides the same 30-Amp, 2-pole, 30mA GFEP rating but is designed for Siemens EQ, ES, and PL residential load centers instead of bolt-on commercial panelboards.
How is the neutral connection configured on the BE230?
This breaker includes a factory-installed pigtail neutral wire. The pigtail must be landed on the panelboard neutral bar to provide 120V power to the internal ground fault sensing electronics.
How do I wire the BE230 for a straight 240V load that does not require a neutral?
For a 240V-only load, connect the two hot wires to the load terminals and leave the breaker's load neutral terminal empty. However, you must still connect the breaker's white pigtail wire to the panel neutral bus to power the GFEP sensor.
What wire gauges are approved for the load terminals?
The load-side lugs accept 10 to 8 AWG copper conductors or 10 to 6 AWG aluminum conductors.
Is the BE230 suitable for wet areas requiring personnel ground fault protection?
No. Because this is a GFEP breaker with a 30mA trip level, it does not meet Class A GFCI requirements (5mA) for personnel protection in bathrooms, pools, or spas. It is strictly intended for equipment protection.
What happens if the pigtail neutral is not connected during installation?
If the pigtail neutral is left disconnected, the breaker's internal ground fault protection circuitry will not receive power. The breaker will fail to detect ground faults, and the push-to-test button will not function.
