Designed to support established industrial systems, this 100A three-pole breaker offers fixed thermal and magnetic trip responses. It serves as a dependable safeguard for commercial power distribution networks. The bolt-on configuration fits Eaton Pow-R-Line panelboards and motor control centers. Facility managers often utilize this model to maintain older setups before transitioning to the newer EHD3100 replacement.
What equipment is the EH3100 circuit breaker designed to fit?
This legacy E-Frame breaker is built specifically for older Westinghouse, Cutler-Hammer, and Eaton Pow-R-Line panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers.
What is the modern equivalent to the legacy EH3100?
The Eaton EHD3100 is the direct modern replacement. The EHD3100 is a Series C F-Frame breaker that upgrades the older E-Frame design while maintaining compatibility with the same legacy systems.
Are Westinghouse and Cutler-Hammer EH3100 breakers interchangeable?
Yes. Eaton acquired the Westinghouse electrical distribution line and continued producing the exact same E-Frame breakers under the Cutler-Hammer and Eaton names. They are exact drop-in replacements for one another.
How is the EH3100 secured inside the panelboard?
It uses a bolt-on connection type. The breaker must be bolted directly to the panelboard bus, which provides a highly secure mechanical and electrical connection suitable for high-vibration industrial environments.
What type of trip unit does the EH3100 use?
It features a non-interchangeable thermal-magnetic trip unit with fixed long-time and instantaneous (LI) trip functions. This provides standard overload and short-circuit protection without the need for field adjustments.
Is the EH3100 suitable for direct current (DC) systems?
Yes, while primarily used in 240V or 480V AC commercial systems, it is also fully rated for DC applications up to 250VDC, making it versatile for specialized industrial control circuits.
Does the EH3100 require special lugs for aluminum wire?
No, the standard lugs included with the EH3100 are AL/CU rated, meaning they safely accept both aluminum and copper conductors ranging from 4 AWG to 2/0 AWG.
Why is it important to verify the available fault current before installing the EH3100?
The EH3100 has a maximum interrupting rating of 14kAIC at 480V. Installing it in a system where the available fault current exceeds this rating can result in catastrophic breaker failure during a short circuit. Always ensure the panel's fault current is within the breaker's limits.
