No. The EHB3100 is a bolt-on molded case circuit breaker designed specifically for commercial and industrial panelboards. It cannot be installed in standard residential load centers that require plug-on or snap-in style breakers.
Which panelboards are compatible with the EHB3100?
This breaker is engineered for legacy Westinghouse distribution panelboards. It is also compatible with select Eaton Pow-R-Line C and older F-Frame commercial enclosures that accept E-Frame or F-Frame bolt-on breakers.
Is the Westinghouse EHB series still actively manufactured?
The original EHB series is obsolete. The Eaton EHD series serves as the direct modern equivalent and shares the same physical footprint and electrical specifications. However, utilizing an exact-match EHB3100 allows maintenance teams to preserve the original engineering specifications of vintage electrical enclosures.
Can I adjust the trip curve settings on the EHB3100?
No, this model is equipped with a non-interchangeable trip unit. Both the thermal (long-time) and magnetic (instantaneous) trip functions are fixed. If your specific application requires adjustable trip functionality, you will need to upgrade to a breaker equipped with an electronic trip unit.
What wire sizes do the lugs on this 100A breaker accommodate?
The factory lugs accept copper or aluminum wiring ranging from 4 AWG up to 2/0 AWG. Be sure to torque the lugs to the manufacturer specifications and size your conductors properly for a 100-amp continuous load based on current electrical codes.
Is the EHB3100 suitable for a 480V system with 25kA available fault current?
No. The EHB3100 has a maximum interrupting rating of 14kA at 480VAC. If your system has 25kA of available fault current at that voltage, you must use a higher-rated alternative to safely clear potential faults without damaging the equipment.
How does the fixed thermal-magnetic trip mechanism protect the circuit?
The thermal element utilizes a bimetallic strip that bends and trips the breaker during prolonged overloads, preventing wire insulation damage. The magnetic element instantly opens the circuit when it detects the extreme current spikes associated with short circuits, ensuring immediate protection.
