Description

Maintaining older electrical systems is simplified with the HK3225, a 225A, 3-pole molded case circuit breaker. It delivers robust power distribution for commercial facilities. Designed as a K-Frame device, it integrates into legacy Westinghouse and Cutler-Hammer switchboards. Facility managers can rely on this exact-fit component, which is replaced by the HKD3225. The breaker features a 65 kAIC rating at 480VAC and utilizes thermal-magnetic trip technology with adjustable magnetic settings.

Product FAQs

8 answers
Is the HK3225 interchangeable with the HKD3225?

Yes, the modern Eaton HKD3225 is the direct replacement for the legacy Westinghouse HK3225. Both share the exact same physical dimensions and K-Frame footprint, allowing for a drop-in replacement.

What types of enclosures accept this K-Frame breaker?

This breaker installs directly into legacy Westinghouse, Cutler-Hammer, and Eaton panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers that are designed to accept Series C K-Frame devices.

How is the magnetic trip adjusted on this breaker?

The magnetic trip is adjusted using a dial located on the front face of the thermal-magnetic trip unit. This allows electricians to fine-tune the instantaneous short-circuit response to match specific load characteristics.

What does the H in the HK series designation indicate?

The H signifies that this is a high interrupting capacity version of the standard K-Frame breaker. It provides a higher fault current rating than standard KD models, making it suitable for systems with higher available fault currents.

What does the LI trip function code mean for this specific breaker?

The LI designation indicates that the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides Long-Time and Instantaneous protection. The fixed thermal element handles sustained overloads (Long-Time), while the adjustable magnetic element responds to short circuits (Instantaneous).

Why is this breaker listed under both Eaton and Westinghouse?

Eaton acquired the Westinghouse electrical distribution division in 1994. As a result, legacy Westinghouse K-Frame breakers like this one are fully compatible with equivalent Cutler-Hammer and Eaton Series C hardware.

Does this breaker require a separate mounting kit?

The breaker itself is designed for standard panel mount applications. However, if you are installing it into a specific motor control center or distribution panel, you will need the corresponding bus strap kit or mounting bracket designed for that exact enclosure.

What are the primary safety steps before installing this K-Frame breaker?

Always completely de-energize the switchboard or panelboard before beginning installation. Use a properly rated voltage multimeter to verify that all phases are dead, and follow standard lockout/tagout procedures to prevent accidental re-energization.
