Providing advanced ground-fault capabilities, this PowerPacT P-frame breaker utilizes a Micrologic 6.0A trip unit for complete LSIG coordination. The microprocessor-based system allows fine-tuning of all trip parameters. Designed for unit-mount applications, it integrates into Square D QED switchboards and Model 6 motor control centers. Rated for 100% continuous current, it prevents unnecessary derating, while zone selective interlocking ensures rapid fault clearing.
What does the 'C' in the PGL36080CU44A catalog number indicate?
The 'C' indicates that this circuit breaker is 100 percent rated. This means it can carry its full 800A continuous current rating without the standard 80 percent derating requirement, provided it is installed in an enclosure approved for 100 percent operation.
What does the 'U44A' suffix mean on this Square D breaker?
The 'U44A' designates the factory-installed Micrologic 6.0A electronic trip unit. The '6.0' indicates it includes LSIG (Long-Time, Short-Time, Instantaneous, and Ground-Fault) protection, and the 'A' signifies it features an integrated ammeter for current monitoring.
Can I use this breaker in a 4-wire system requiring ground-fault protection?
Yes, the Micrologic 6.0A trip unit provides ground-fault protection. However, when installed in a 3-phase, 4-wire system, an external neutral current transformer (CT) must be installed and wired to the trip unit to properly monitor neutral currents and prevent nuisance tripping.
Are the trip units on the PowerPacT P-frame interchangeable?
Yes, the Micrologic trip units on Square D PowerPacT P-frame breakers are field-interchangeable. This allows you to upgrade the trip unit for advanced metering or different protection functions without replacing the entire 800A breaker frame.
What does the 'L' in the PGL prefix stand for?
In the PowerPacT nomenclature, the 'L' in PGL indicates that the breaker is configured for unit mounting with mechanical lugs on both the line and load sides. This is distinct from an I-Line plug-on configuration.
Does this breaker support Zone-Selective Interlocking (ZSI)?
Yes, the Micrologic 6.0A trip unit includes Zone-Selective Interlocking (ZSI) capabilities for both short-time and ground-fault protection. This allows the breaker to communicate with downstream devices to isolate faults quickly while minimizing system downtime.
How do I determine the interrupting rating from the part number?
The 'G' in the PGL prefix designates the breaker's interrupting capacity tier. For this frame, the G-rating provides 65kA at 240V, 35kA at 480V, and 18kA at 600V.
What type of wire is compatible with the standard lugs on this breaker?
The standard mechanical lugs accept either copper (Cu) or aluminum (Al) conductors. The acceptable wire range is three 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil cables per phase.
