Built for commercial and industrial power distribution, the NFJ631100R provides reliable overcurrent protection for 3-phase systems. This 100A molded case circuit breaker features fixed thermal and adjustable magnetic trip settings for precise coordination. It installs into legacy Federal Pacific panelboards using a secure bolt-on connection. As an obsolete N-Frame model, it serves as an exact replacement for aging infrastructure and is superseded by the NFJ632100. Rated for 25kAIC at 240VAC.
Can I install the NFJ631100 in a modern Schneider Electric or Eaton panel?
No. The NFJ631100 is a legacy N-Frame breaker designed exclusively for older Federal Pacific (FPE) panelboards. It will not fit in modern enclosures from other manufacturers.
Are Challenger or American brand NFJ breakers interchangeable with the Federal Pacific NFJ631100?
Yes. Following the original production by Federal Pacific, the NFJ frame was also manufactured under the Challenger and American brand names. These are exact cross-references for the FPE NFJ631100.
Are there any current production breakers that can replace the NFJ631100?
There are no direct modern replacements currently in production for the FPE NFJ series. You must use an original legacy NFJ frame breaker to maintain existing Federal Pacific panelboards.
Does the NFJ631100 include load-side lugs?
Yes, this breaker comes equipped with load-side lugs that accept wire sizes ranging from 4 AWG to 300 kcmil. Ensure you follow standard torque specifications during installation, as legacy FPE documentation may be required for exact torque values.
How does the adjustable magnetic trip function work on the NFJ631100?
While the thermal element for overload protection is fixed at 100 amps, the magnetic trip is adjustable. This allows electricians to fine-tune the instantaneous short-circuit response to coordinate with other protective devices in the system.
What does the LI trip function code mean on the NFJ631100?
The LI designation indicates that the breaker provides Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) trip functions. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function clears severe short circuits immediately.
Is the NFJ631100 part of the Federal Pacific Stab-Lok residential line?
No. The NFJ631100 is a commercial and industrial molded case circuit breaker with a secure bolt-on connection. It is entirely separate from the residential Stab-Lok plug-on breakers that have known safety controversies.
