This bolt-on branch breaker is designed specifically to mount into Siemens P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 commercial panelboards.
Can I install the B220 in a standard residential load center?
No. Standard Siemens residential load centers require plug-on type breakers, such as the QP series. The B220 features a bolt-on connection designed to secure directly to the bus bars of commercial panelboards.
Is the B220 part of the Siemens BL family?
Yes. The B220 is the exact catalog number for a 20-amp, 2-pole breaker within the Siemens BL frame family. If your panelboard schedule calls for a 2-pole 20A BL type breaker, this is the correct part.
My panelboard schedule requires a 22kAIC or 65kAIC rating. Will the standard B220 work?
No. The B220 has a standard interrupting rating of 10kAIC at 120/240VAC. If your system fault current calculation requires higher capacity, you must source the higher-rated BLH (22kAIC) or HBL (65kAIC) equivalent.
What specific trip protection does the B220 provide for branch circuits?
It utilizes fixed thermal-magnetic trip technology. The thermal element provides long-time protection against continuous circuit overloads, while the magnetic element delivers instantaneous protection to clear short circuits safely.
What size branch circuit conductors can I terminate at the load lugs?
The factory-installed lugs accept copper conductors ranging from 14 to 10 AWG, or aluminum conductors from 12 to 10 AWG. Ensure your wire selection aligns with NEC ampacity tables for a 20-amp circuit.
Does the B220 provide ground fault or arc fault protection?
No. This unit provides standard thermal-magnetic overcurrent and short-circuit protection only. It does not feature integrated GFCI or AFCI circuitry.
Can this 2-pole breaker be used in a 3-phase panelboard?
Yes, it can be mounted in a 3-phase P1 through P5 panelboard to tap two distinct phases for a 1-phase branch circuit. However, it only provides 2-pole protection and cannot be used to power 3-phase loads.
Will this breaker fit into an older ITE commercial panelboard?
Yes. Siemens acquired ITE and retained the BL frame design. The Siemens B220 is fully backwards compatible and serves as a direct replacement for legacy ITE 20-amp, 2-pole bolt-on breakers of the same type.

Expedited Shipments
