6 answersWhat type of panelboards does the FC34020 fit?
This breaker is designed specifically for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It will not fit standard load centers like QO or Homeline, nor will it mount in standard bolt-on NQ or NF panelboards.
What is the difference between Square D FA34020, FH34020, and FC34020 breakers?
All three are 20-amp, 3-pole F-frame breakers but they differ in short circuit interrupting ratings. The FA is standard capacity, the FH is high capacity, and the FC features an extra-high interrupting capacity of 65kA at 480VAC.
How is the FC34020 connected inside the panel?
It utilizes an I-Line style plug-in connection. The line side features a jaw mechanism that pushes directly onto the panelboard busbar without internal hardware. The load side connects to field wiring via standard mechanical lugs accepting 14 to 4 AWG copper or aluminum wire.
Is the FC34020 suitable for direct current (DC) circuits?
Yes. In addition to alternating current applications up to 480VAC, this thermal-magnetic breaker is rated for use on 250VDC systems with a 10kA DC interrupting capacity.
Has the FC34020 been replaced by a newer series?
The legacy Square D F-frame series has been superseded by the modern PowerPact H-frame series. While PowerPact is standard for new build installations, the FC34020 remains a direct drop-in replacement for existing F-frame I-Line spaces without requiring busbar modifications or adapters.
What type of trip mechanism does the FC34020 use?
It utilizes a thermal-magnetic trip unit that provides fixed thermal (long-time overload) and fixed magnetic (instantaneous short-circuit) protection. It does not feature electronic trip adjustments.

Expedited Shipments
