Product FAQs

8 answers
What is the difference between the Federal Pacific NA15 and NC15 circuit breakers?

The NA15 is a standard full-size breaker that occupies one inch of space on the busbar. The NC15 is a thin profile breaker that takes up one-half inch of space per pole. Both are built for Federal Pacific Stab-Lok load centers, but they require different amounts of physical panel space.

Can the NA15 be installed in modern load centers from other manufacturers?

No. The NA15 relies on a proprietary Stab-Lok plug-on design. It is specifically built for Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) Stab-Lok load centers and will not physically attach to the busbars of panels made by Square D, Siemens, Eaton, or GE.

What is the modern replacement for the obsolete Federal Pacific NA15?

Connecticut Electric manufactures a direct replacement under the part number UBIF15N. These new aftermarket breakers are ETL listed to UL Standard 489 and designed specifically to fit into existing Stab-Lok panels.

Why do professionals often recommend replacing Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panels?

Original Federal Pacific Stab-Lok equipment has a well documented history of safety issues, primarily involving the breakers failing to trip under overcurrent or short-circuit conditions. Many safety organizations and electricians advise upgrading the entire panel to a modern system to mitigate fire risks.

How does the NA15 attach to the electrical panel?

The NA15 is a plug-on breaker that uses the Stab-Lok connection method. It features metal prongs that press directly into the slots on the panel busbar without requiring any mounting screws or bolt-on hardware.

How do you reset a tripped Federal Pacific NA series breaker?

Unlike many contemporary breakers that move to a middle tripped position, older Federal Pacific NA breakers often move completely to the OFF position when they trip. To reset the breaker and restore power, push the handle firmly back to the ON position.

Is the NA15 suitable for controlling fluorescent lighting or HVAC equipment?

Yes. The full-width NA15 breaker carries both SWD (Switching Duty) and HACR (Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) ratings. This allows it to safely switch fluorescent lighting loads and protect dedicated heating and cooling circuits.

What does the LI trip function on this breaker represent?

The LI designation indicates that the thermal-magnetic breaker features Long-Time and Instantaneous trip capabilities. The long-time function handles prolonged, low-level overloads, while the instantaneous function responds immediately to high-fault short circuits.
