Product FAQs
8 answers
Which panelboards are compatible with the Siemens B290 circuit breaker?
The B290 is designed for use in Siemens P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 series commercial panelboards. It requires a bolt-on connection to the busbar.
Will the B290 bolt-on breaker fit in a standard Siemens residential load center?
No, standard Siemens residential load centers require plug-on breakers, such as the QP series (e.g., Q290). The B290 is a bolt-on breaker (BL series) designed specifically for commercial P1 through P5 panelboards.
Do I need to purchase separate lugs for the Siemens B290?
No, the B290 comes with factory-installed load-side lugs that accept 4 AWG to 1/0 AWG copper or 2 AWG to 1/0 AWG aluminum conductors. The line side connects directly to the panelboard bus via a bolt-on connection.
Is the Siemens B290 suitable for systems with high available fault current?
The B290 is rated for a maximum of 10 kAIC at 120/240VAC. If your panel requires a higher interrupting capacity, you will need a different breaker series, such as the Siemens B290H (22 kAIC) or B290HH (65 kAIC).
What is the difference between the Siemens B290, B290H, and B290HH?
All three are 90A, 2-pole, bolt-on breakers for Siemens panelboards, but they have different interrupting ratings. The B290 is rated at 10 kAIC, the B290H (BLH type) is rated at 22 kAIC, and the B290HH (HBL type) is rated at 65 kAIC.
Can the Siemens B290 be used to protect HVAC equipment?
Yes, the B290 is HACR rated, meaning it is approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires this specific certification.
Can I use the Siemens B290 as a main breaker?
The B290 is a miniature molded case circuit breaker typically used as a branch or feeder breaker in Siemens P1 through P5 panelboards. It is not designed to serve as a main breaker for these panels.
Are the trip settings on the Siemens B290 adjustable?
No, the B290 features a fixed thermal magnetic trip unit. Both the long-time (overload) and instantaneous (short circuit) trip functions are factory set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
