A reliable solution for industrial power systems, the Siemens BQD6240 is a 40A, 2-pole molded case circuit breaker. It is specifically engineered to protect 600Y/347VAC and 125/250VDC electrical circuits. This device mounts into Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards using a secure bolt-on connection. It is suitable for reverse feed applications, offering flexibility during panel setup. Equipped with thermal-magnetic protection, the breaker delivers a 10kAIC rating and includes load-side lugs.
Which Siemens panelboards accept the BQD6240 breaker?
This bolt-on breaker is compatible with Siemens P1, P2, and P3 lighting and distribution panelboards. It requires standard 1-inch per pole spacing for installation.
Is the Siemens BQD6240 UL listed for use in the United States?
No. The BQD6 series is CSA certified for use in Canada and is specifically designed for 600Y/347V AC systems. It does not carry a UL listing. US applications requiring UL 489 approval should use the standard BQD series.
Is the BQD6240 suitable for HVAC equipment?
Yes, this breaker is HACR rated, meaning it is approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
What are the lug wire size requirements for the BQD6240?
The factory-installed load lugs accommodate 14 to 6 AWG copper conductors or 12 to 6 AWG aluminum conductors. Ensure proper torque specifications are followed during termination.
Does the BQD6240 require a specific mounting hardware kit?
When installing in Siemens P1, P2, or P3 panelboards, it bolts directly to the bus. Depending on the specific panelboard generation, a branch breaker mounting kit or twin mounting strap may be required if not already present in the panel.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip unit on the BQD6240 operate?
The fixed thermal element responds to sustained overloads by heating and tripping the breaker, while the magnetic element provides instantaneous tripping during severe short circuits. Both functions are non-adjustable.
Are internal accessories compatible with the BQD6240?
Yes, you can field-install accessories like shunt trips or auxiliary switches. These add-on modules must be mounted on the left side of the two-pole breaker housing.
