Product FAQs
8 answers
Which Siemens panelboards are compatible with the HED42B070 breaker?
This bolt-on breaker is designed for use in Siemens Sentron P1, P2, and P3 panelboards, as well as SB Switchboards and Siemens Motor Control Centers.
What is the difference between the HED42B070 and the standard ED42B070?
The HED42B070 is the high-interrupting version of the standard ED42B070. While both share the exact same physical ED frame dimensions, the HED4 model provides a higher interrupting capacity of 42kA at 480VAC, compared to the 18kA rating of the standard ED4 model.
Can the HED42B070 be used in direct current (DC) systems?
Yes, this thermal-magnetic breaker is rated for DC applications, providing an interrupting capacity of 30kA at 250VDC.
What wire sizes are supported by the terminals on this breaker?
The included lugs accept wire gauges ranging from 10 AWG to 1/0 AWG. The terminals are rated for both copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) conductors.
Are the trip settings on the HED42B070 adjustable?
No, this breaker features a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip unit. The long-time and instantaneous trip functions cannot be adjusted in the field.
Can I install this breaker in a load center that uses plug-on breakers?
No, the HED42B070 requires a bolt-on connection to the busbar. It is not compatible with standard residential plug-on load centers.
Can the HED42B070 replace an older HHED42B070?
The HED42B070 has a lower interrupting rating (42kA at 480VAC) than the HHED42B070 (65kA at 480VAC). You can only substitute it if the available fault current at the panel is verified by an engineer to be under 42kA. Otherwise, you must use the HHED4 equivalent to maintain safety compliance.
Does this breaker require a specific mounting hardware kit?
When installing in Sentron panelboards, twin mounting or single mounting strap kits may be required depending on the panel configuration and whether you are mounting it adjacent to another ED frame breaker.
