Handling specialized 25-amp residential circuits, this two-pole thermal-magnetic device delivers consistent defense against electrical faults. It mounts effortlessly into compatible Murray and Siemens load centers, providing a secure connection for dedicated equipment. The unit features a common trip mechanism to ensure both legs disconnect simultaneously during an overload. For new installations or panel upgrades, the Siemens QP225 serves as the modern equivalent to this classic design.
Can I install the Siemens MP225 in an older Murray load center?
Yes. Siemens acquired Murray and phased out the Murray brand name. The Siemens MP225 is the manufacturer approved replacement for legacy Murray 25A, 2-pole MP-T breakers and fits directly into Murray load centers.
Is the MP225 interchangeable with Siemens QP series breakers?
While Siemens QP and MP series breakers share the same physical dimensions and are manufactured by Siemens, you must follow your panel labeling. Use the MP225 if your load center specifically lists MP or MP-T frame breakers to maintain UL compliance.
What is the direct replacement for a legacy Murray MP225?
The Siemens MP225 is the exact replacement for the legacy Murray MP225. Siemens continues to manufacture the MP line specifically to support and service existing Murray panels.
Does this breaker replace Murray MP-T models?
Yes. The MP frame designation is the current catalog equivalent for legacy Murray MP-T branch circuit breakers, providing the same thermal magnetic protection.
What wire sizes are accepted by the lugs on this breaker?
The load side lugs accept 14 to 6 AWG copper wire or 12 to 6 AWG aluminum wire. Always verify the torque specifications printed on the breaker label before terminating the conductors.
Can this breaker be used with aluminum wiring?
Yes, the terminals are rated for both copper and aluminum conductors. When terminating aluminum wire, it is recommended to apply a listed joint compound to prevent oxidation.
Does the MP225 provide arc fault or ground fault protection?
No. This is a standard thermal magnetic breaker with long-time and instantaneous trip functions. It does not include AFCI, GFCI, or dual function protection circuitry.
How much panel space does this breaker require?
As a standard 2-pole breaker, it requires two adjacent 1-inch spaces on the bus bar, taking up a total width of 2 inches in your load center.
What does the LI trip function code mean on this breaker?
The LI designation indicates that the breaker features both Long-Time and Instantaneous trip functions. The long-time function protects against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous function reacts immediately to short circuits.
