Rated for 60 amps at 120VAC, this single-pole QP series breaker offers robust thermal-magnetic protection for higher-draw residential and commercial circuits. The convenient plug-on design allows for rapid installation and secure seating within the panelboard bus. It is fully compatible with Siemens EQ, EQL, SEQ, EQG, PL, and ES load centers, and can substitute for the Murray MP160. With a standard 10 kAIC rating and HACR approval, it ensures reliable performance and code compliance.
Can the Siemens Q160 replace an older Murray MP-T circuit breaker?
Yes. Siemens acquired Murray and phased out the MP-T line. The Siemens QP series, including the Q160, is the manufacturer-approved and UL-listed direct replacement for Murray MP160 breakers.
Is this breaker compatible with older ITE load centers?
Yes. The Siemens QP series is the direct descendant of the ITE EQ-P line. The Q160 can be used to replace an obsolete ITE 1-pole 60A breaker in panels that accept EQ-P types.
What is the maximum continuous load allowed for the Q160 breaker?
Standard thermal-magnetic breakers are rated for 80 percent continuous load. For this 60A breaker, the maximum continuous load is 48 amps.
Is the Siemens Q160 HACR rated?
Yes. This breaker is HACR rated, making it suitable for use with compatible heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires a 60A, 120VAC circuit.
How much panel space does the Q160 require?
As a 1-pole Type QP breaker, it requires a single 1-inch space in a compatible Siemens, ITE, or Murray load center.
Can I use aluminum wire with this breaker?
Yes. The Q160 features lugs that are AL/CU rated, meaning they accept both aluminum and copper conductors. Ensure you use the correct wire gauge (8 to 2 AWG) and apply an approved oxide inhibitor if using aluminum wire.
What is the difference between the Siemens Q160 and Q160H?
The difference is the interrupting rating. The standard Q160 has a 10kAIC rating at 120V, while the Q160H is rated for 22kAIC. Verify your panel fault current requirements before selecting a breaker.
Does the Q160 provide GFCI or AFCI protection?
No. The Q160 is a standard thermal-magnetic breaker providing overload and short-circuit protection. It does not include ground-fault or arc-fault circuit interruption capabilities.
