Engineered for commercial and industrial applications, the Square D BDA36070 is a 3-pole, 70A molded case circuit breaker from the PowerPacT B-Frame family. It features an I-Line plug-on connection for rapid installation into compatible Square D panelboards. This unit serves as a seamless replacement for the legacy FA36070 breaker. Equipped with a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit, it provides reliable long-time and instantaneous (LI) protection with an 18kAIC rating at 480VAC.
What legacy circuit breakers does the BDA36070 replace?
The PowerPacT B-frame is the designated direct replacement for legacy Square D F-frame breakers, including the FA, FH, and FC series. Specifically, it replaces the FA36070 while keeping the exact same mounting dimensions to simplify retrofitting in existing panelboards.
How much panel mounting space does this breaker require?
As a 3-pole PowerPacT B-frame device, it requires 4.5 inches of I-Line mounting space on the panelboard bus, taking up exactly 1.5 inches per pole.
What is the recommended tightening torque for the load lugs?
For 14 to 10 AWG wire, torque the load lugs to 31.9 to 38.9 lb-in. For 8 to 2/0 AWG wire, torque the lugs to 44.3 to 54.9 lb-in.
Is this circuit breaker HACR rated?
Yes, Square D PowerPacT B-frame molded case circuit breakers carry an HACR rating, making them suitable for providing overcurrent protection for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Does this breaker include a push-to-trip feature?
Yes, it includes an integral push-to-trip button on the front cover. This allows you to manually trip the breaker to verify the mechanical operation of the trip mechanism during maintenance.
What is the continuous current rating for this breaker?
Standard PowerPacT B-frame circuit breakers carry an 80 percent continuous current applied rating, conforming to standard NEC and Canadian Electrical Code application rules.
How does the I-Line plug-on jaw react during a short circuit?
The I-Line connection utilizes a blow-on design. If a short circuit occurs, the increased magnetic flux physically causes the plug-on connectors to tighten their grasp securely onto the panelboard busbars.
What internal contact design does the PowerPacT B-frame use?
It is equipped with dual-break rotating contacts that quickly interrupt power and reduce the amount of peak let-through current during a short circuit fault.
