This bolt-on E-frame breaker is designed exclusively for use in Square D NF series panelboards. It is not compatible with NQ or I-Line panelboards, which require different frame types.
What is the difference between the EJB34070, EGB34070, and EDB34070?
All three are 70-amp, 3-pole E-frame breakers that fit NF panelboards. The only difference is their maximum interrupting rating at 480Y/277VAC. The EDB is rated for 18kA, the EGB for 35kA, and the EJB provides the highest capacity at 65kA.
How are the line and load connections made on the EJB34070?
The line side bolts directly to the busbar of a Square D NF panelboard. The load side features factory installed lugs that accept bare branch circuit wiring.
What wire sizes and materials are supported by the load lugs?
The factory installed terminals accommodate either copper or aluminum conductors. For copper wire, the acceptable range is 14 AWG to 2/0 AWG. For aluminum wire, use 12 AWG to 2/0 AWG.
Why is the breaker rated for 480Y/277VAC instead of a straight 480VAC?
The 480Y/277VAC slash rating indicates the breaker is intended strictly for solidly grounded Wye systems. While it can handle 480V line-to-line, the line-to-ground voltage must not exceed 277V. It cannot be safely used on ungrounded or corner-grounded 480V Delta systems.
How does the system voltage affect the interrupting rating of the EJB34070?
The maximum fault current this breaker can safely clear depends on the operating voltage. While it is rated for 65kA at 480Y/277VAC and 277VAC, the interrupting capacity increases to 100kA when installed in 120VAC or 240VAC systems.
What does the LI trip function mean for this breaker?
The LI designation indicates that the breaker is equipped with a thermal-magnetic trip unit offering Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. The fixed thermal mechanism protects against sustained overloads, while the fixed magnetic mechanism safely interrupts short circuits.
