The EJB34080 is a bolt-on E-frame breaker designed specifically for use in Square D NF panelboards. It requires three pole spaces for installation.
Can I use the EJB34080 on a 480V ungrounded delta system?
No. The 480Y/277VAC designation is a slash rating. This indicates the breaker is strictly designed for solidly grounded wye systems where the voltage to ground does not exceed 277V. It must not be installed on 480V ungrounded or corner-grounded delta systems.
What are the wire size and torque requirements for the EJB34080 terminals?
The integrated lugs accept 14 to 2/0 AWG copper or 12 to 2/0 AWG aluminum wire. Required tightening torque depends on the wire size. Torque 14 to 10 AWG conductors to 34.5 lb-in, and 8 to 2/0 AWG conductors to 49.6 lb-in.
What is the difference between the Square D EDB34080, EGB34080, and EJB34080?
All three are 80A, 3-pole E-frame breakers that fit Square D NF panelboards, but their interrupting ratings differ. At 480Y/277VAC, the EDB34080 is rated for 18 kAIC, the EGB34080 for 35 kAIC, and the EJB34080 provides the maximum rating of 65 kAIC.
Is the EJB34080 rated for continuous loads at 100% of its nameplate amperage?
No. Like most standard Square D E-frame breakers, the EJB34080 is an 80% rated device. For continuous loads lasting three hours or more, the maximum current should not exceed 64 amps, which is 80% of its 80-amp nominal rating.
Are the trip settings adjustable on the EJB34080?
No. The EJB34080 features a thermal magnetic trip unit with fixed long-time and instantaneous trip functions. Neither the thermal overload nor the instantaneous magnetic trip threshold can be adjusted in the field.
