The third letter of the catalog number designates the interrupting capacity (AIC) rating at 480VAC. The HDA36020 has a standard D rating of 18kA. The HGA36020 (G) and HJA36020 (J) share the exact same physical dimensions and mounting style but offer higher interrupting ratings for systems with higher available fault currents.
Can the HDA36020 replace older Square D FA or FH frame circuit breakers?
Yes, the PowerPacT H-Frame is the modern direct replacement for the obsolete 100A F-Frame series (FA, FH, FC). It utilizes the same I-Line plug-on bracket, allowing it to easily retrofit into existing Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards.
What are the torque specifications for the load-side lugs on this breaker?
The factory-installed AL150HD mechanical lugs require different torque values based on the wire gauge used. For 14 AWG to 10 AWG wire, torque to 44 lb-in (5 N.m). For 8 AWG to 3/0 AWG wire, tighten to 124 lb-in (14 N.m).
How do the line and load connections differ on this I-Line breaker?
As an I-Line style breaker, it features a plug-on bracket with jaw connections on the line side that mount and clip directly onto the panelboard busbar. The load side utilizes standard mechanical lugs for wire termination.
Are the trip settings adjustable on the HDA36020?
No, this breaker utilizes a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. Both the Long-Time overload protection and the Instantaneous short-circuit protection are factory-sealed and non-adjustable. If your application requires field-adjustable settings, you must specify a PowerPacT model equipped with a MicroLogic electronic trip unit.
Is this 20-amp breaker rated for 100% continuous duty?
No, this standard model is 80% rated. In accordance with standard electrical codes, continuous loads (defined as operating for 3 hours or more) should not exceed 80% of the breaker handle rating. For this 20A breaker, the maximum continuous load is 16 amps.
Can the HDA36020 be installed in DC voltage systems?
Yes, the standard thermal-magnetic trip unit is suitable for direct current applications. It carries a DC interrupting rating of 20kA at 250VDC.
Does this breaker include a push-to-trip testing feature?
Yes, all PowerPacT H-Frame molded case circuit breakers include an integrated push-to-trip button on the front cover. This allows personnel to manually trip the operating mechanism to verify mechanical functionality and exercise the internal contacts.

Expedited Shipments
