The HGL36150 is a unit-mount circuit breaker that features line and load lugs for traditional panel and enclosure mounting. The HGA36150 has identical electrical specifications but comes with an I-Line plug-on connection on the line side for use in Square D I-Line panelboards.
What does the "G" represent in the HGL36150 part number?
The "G" indicates the breaking capacity, or interrupting rating, of the circuit breaker. For Square D PowerPacT H-Frame breakers, the G-rating provides a maximum interrupting capacity of 65kA at 240VAC and 35kA at 480VAC.
What wire size does the HGL36150 accept?
This breaker includes factory-installed AL150HD lugs on both the line and load sides. These standard lugs accept 14 AWG through 3/0 AWG aluminum or copper conductors.
Can the HGL36150 be reverse fed?
Yes. Because this is a standard thermal-magnetic PowerPacT H-Frame circuit breaker without a communications module, it is suitable for reverse connection. You can safely land the incoming line power on either the top or bottom lugs.
Are the trip points adjustable on this breaker?
No. The HGL36150 is equipped with a standard thermal-magnetic trip unit featuring fixed long-time (thermal) and fixed instantaneous (magnetic) settings. For adjustable trip settings, you would need to specify a PowerPacT breaker with a MicroLogic electronic trip unit.
Can I install a shunt trip or auxiliary contact in the HGL36150?
Yes. Square D PowerPacT H-Frame breakers feature a standard accessory compartment behind the front cover. You can field-install internal electrical accessories, including shunt trips (MX), undervoltage releases (MN), auxiliary switches (OF), and alarm switches (SD).
What is the maximum amp capacity for the PowerPacT H-Frame series?
The PowerPacT H-Frame series supports a maximum continuous current of 150 amps. For higher amperages up to 250 amps, you would need to step up to the physically larger PowerPacT J-Frame.
Can I mount the HGL36150 in a standard Square D load center?
No. The PowerPacT H-Frame is a commercial and industrial molded case circuit breaker designed for use in industrial control panels, switchboards, and specific PowerPacT H-Frame enclosures. It is not compatible with standard QO or Homeline residential load centers.
