Product FAQs
6 answers
Which panelboards accept the IF36080 circuit breaker?
This breaker is specifically designed for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It utilizes a plug-on jaw assembly for the line-side busbar connection, allowing for quick and secure installation directly to the bus stack.
Can I use the IF36080 in a standard QO or Homeline load center?
No, this is an I-Line style plug-on breaker designed exclusively for industrial I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It is not compatible with residential QO or Homeline load centers.
How does the current-limiting feature of the IF36080 benefit my electrical system?
As part of the Square D I-Limiter family, this breaker clears severe short circuits in a fraction of a cycle. By limiting the peak let-through current and energy, it reduces thermal and magnetic stress on downstream equipment, providing superior protection in high fault current environments.
Is the IF36080 still manufactured, or is there a newer replacement?
The IF36080 is a legacy, discontinued breaker. For new installations or direct upgrades in I-Line panelboards, the modern equivalent is the Square D PowerPact H-Frame series, specifically catalog number HRA36080.
What are the load-side wiring requirements for this breaker?
The factory-installed mechanical lugs are dual-rated for both copper and aluminum conductors. They accept copper wire from 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG and aluminum wire from 12 AWG to 1/0 AWG. Always torque the lugs to the specifications printed on the breaker faceplate to ensure a safe connection.
Does the IF36080 provide adjustable trip settings?
No, this breaker features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. Both the Long-Time (overload) and Instantaneous (short circuit) trip functions are factory-set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
