Description

Part of GE's Tri-Break series, this 400A molded case circuit breaker provides long-time and instantaneous (LI) protection for industrial motor control applications. The unit mount MCCB installs into compatible GE switchboards and motor control centers. Note that this TB frame breaker is replaced by the ABB Tmax XT5, which requires a retrofit kit. Rated 50 kAIC at 480VAC, the TLB434400 features an integrally fused, current-limiting design to minimize fault damage.

Product FAQs

8 answers
What type of equipment is the TLB434400 compatible with?

This 3-pole breaker is designed for unit-mounting in compatible GE switchboards and motor control centers. It is not intended for use in standard residential load centers.

What wire sizes and materials are accepted by the terminal lugs?

The feed-thru terminals accept either copper or aluminum conductors. You can terminate a single wire ranging from 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil, or dual 250 kcmil wires per phase.

What are the interrupting capacities for this Tri-Break MCCB?

The integrally fused TLB4 frame provides an interrupting capacity of 65kA at 240VAC and 50kA at 480VAC.

How does the thermal magnetic trip unit operate on this breaker?

The unit features fixed thermal and fixed magnetic settings. It provides non-interchangeable long-time and instantaneous (LI) protection to guard against overloads and short circuits.

Does this breaker come with the necessary connection lugs?

Yes, the TLB434400 comes standard as a feed-thru breaker and includes both line and load lugs installed from the factory.

How is the TLB434400 mounted into an electrical panel?

This is a unit-mount circuit breaker. It bolts directly to the mounting pan or backplate within an enclosure, switchboard, or motor control center, rather than plugging onto a busbar.

What is the current replacement for the legacy GE TLB434400?

The legacy TB frame has been superseded by the ABB Tmax XT5 series. When upgrading to the XT5, a dedicated retrofit kit is required to adapt the physical footprint and bus connections.

How does the current-limiting design improve system protection?

The Tri-Break series utilizes an integrally fused design to heavily restrict the let-through fault current. This significantly minimizes the thermal and magnetic stress on downstream electrical components during a severe short circuit.
