Built for commercial and industrial applications, the Siemens BF115 is a 1-pole, 15A ground fault circuit interrupter. It provides 5mA Class A protection against electrical shock hazards, ensuring NEC compliance for wet locations. This bolt-on breaker mounts into Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards. Note that this unit has been replaced by the newer BF115A model. Rated for 10kAIC at 120VAC, it utilizes thermal-magnetic trip technology and is HACR and SWD rated for switching duty applications.
Which panelboards are compatible with the Siemens BF115 circuit breaker?
This bolt-on breaker is designed specifically for installation in Siemens P1, P2, and P3 panelboards. It is not compatible with standard residential plug-on load centers.
How is the neutral connection handled on this GFCI breaker?
The breaker features a pigtail neutral wire that must be connected directly to the panelboard neutral bus bar to ensure proper ground fault detection and operation.
Has the Siemens BF115 been replaced by a newer catalog number?
Yes, the BF115 is frequently cross-referenced and replaced by the newer BF115A model. Both versions provide the same 15-amp ground fault protection for compatible Siemens panelboards.
What level of ground fault protection does this breaker provide?
It provides 5mA Class A ground fault protection. This sensitivity is designed to protect personnel from electrical shock hazards in wet locations, ensuring compliance with NEC requirements for GFCI protection.
Can I use aluminum wire with this 15-amp breaker?
Yes, the terminal lugs accept both copper and aluminum conductors. When using aluminum wire, the acceptable gauge range is 12 to 8 AWG, while copper requires 14 to 10 AWG.
Is this breaker suitable for switching duty applications?
Yes, it is SWD rated, meaning it can be used as a switch to control fluorescent lighting circuits on a regular basis. It is also HACR rated for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Can I install this breaker in a Square D or GE commercial panelboard?
No. Siemens BF series breakers are engineered and UL listed exclusively for Siemens enclosures. Installing them in other brands violates the UL listing and creates a safety hazard.
What does the LIG trip function code indicate on this breaker?
The LIG designation means the breaker includes Long-Time, Instantaneous, and Ground Fault trip functions. This combination provides standard thermal-magnetic overcurrent protection alongside the integrated personnel ground fault protection.
