Built for industrial power distribution, the 100A FGA breaker utilizes a proven thermal-magnetic mechanism for reliable LI protection. It integrates seamlessly into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchgear assemblies. Maintaining a narrow 3-inch footprint, this F-Frame unit is frequently sought to replace older components without requiring the 4.5-inch space of the newer HGA36100 model. It delivers a solid 35kA interrupting capacity at 480Y/277V and includes the Visi-Trip indicator.
What panelboards are compatible with the Square D FGA34100 circuit breaker?
The FGA34100 is designed for use in legacy Square D I-Line power distribution panelboards and switchboards. It features an I-Line style plug-in connection on the line side for direct bus mounting.
How much mounting space does the FGA34100 require in an I-Line panelboard?
This 3-pole F-frame circuit breaker requires 3 inches of mounting space, which equates to 1 inch per pole. This narrow footprint makes it a preferred replacement over newer H-frame models like the HGA36100, which require a wider 4.5-inch slot.
What wire sizes are accepted by the load lugs on the FGA34100?
The standard load-side lugs accept copper or aluminum wire ranging from 14 AWG to 1/0 AWG. The line side utilizes an I-Line plug-in connection, so mechanical lugs are only present on the load side.
What does the LI trip function code indicate on the FGA34100?
The LI designation means the thermal-magnetic trip unit provides Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) protection. Both the thermal overload and magnetic short-circuit trip settings are fixed on this specific model.
Can I replace the FGA34100 with a newer PowerPact H-frame breaker?
While newer PowerPact H-frame breakers, such as the HGA36100, are electrically compatible with I-Line panelboards, they require 4.5 inches of mounting space. The legacy FGA34100 only requires 3 inches. Upgrading to an H-frame will require rearranging adjacent breakers to accommodate the wider footprint.
How is the FGA34100 secured inside the panelboard?
The breaker utilizes an I-Line plug-in connection that engages directly with the panelboard bus. It is then mechanically secured to the panel backpan using a mounting screw, ensuring a stable and reliable connection without the need for line-side wiring.
