The FAL36020 is part of the legacy Square D F-Frame series, which has been superseded by the PowerPact B-Frame series for new installations. However, FAL breakers are still commonly sourced for maintaining and expanding existing control panels and switchboards without requiring complete panel retrofits.
What is the difference between the FA36020 and FAL36020 circuit breakers?
Both are identical 20-amp, F-Frame molded case circuit breakers. The L in FAL designates that the breaker is factory-equipped with mechanical lugs on both the line and load ends. An FA breaker typically requires lugs to be ordered separately or is used with specialized bus connections.
How do you mount the FAL36020 in a panel?
This is a unit-mount, feed-thru breaker. It does not plug onto a busbar. Instead, it is fastened directly to a backpan or mounting base plate using screws, and conductors are terminated directly into the factory-installed lugs.
Is the FAL36020 circuit breaker 80 percent or 100 percent rated?
Like most standard thermal-magnetic molded case circuit breakers, the FAL36020 is rated for 80 percent continuous duty. In accordance with standard electrical codes, the continuous load should not exceed 16 amps (80 percent of its 20-amp rating) for three hours or more.
What type of protection does the fixed LI trip unit provide?
The LI designation stands for Long-time and Instantaneous trip functions. The long-time function uses a bimetallic thermal element to protect against sustained overloads, while the instantaneous magnetic function responds immediately to high-level short circuits.
Which standalone enclosures are compatible with the FAL36020?
