The CHB240 is designed specifically for Cutler-Hammer Type PB and PH commercial panelboards, as well as select meter panels and multi-metering modules. It cannot be installed in standard residential CH load centers, which require plug-on breakers.
Can I use a standard CH breaker in place of a CHB breaker?
No. While both are part of the Eaton or Cutler-Hammer CH family, standard CH breakers are plug-on devices. The CHB series features a bolt-on mounting design required for PB and PH commercial panelboards.
Are the box lugs on the CHB240 rated for aluminum wire?
Yes, the box lugs accept both copper and aluminum wire ranging from 8 AWG to 4 AWG. Always apply an approved oxide inhibitor when terminating aluminum conductors.
Is the CHB240 HACR rated?
Yes, the CHB240 is HACR rated, making it suitable for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires this specific branch circuit protection.
Will this breaker fit in an Eaton BR panel?
No. Eaton BR panels require 1-inch wide BR series breakers. The CHB240 is a 3/4-inch wide bolt-on breaker designed exclusively for Cutler-Hammer PB and PH series panelboards.
What is the difference between the thermal and magnetic trip functions on this breaker?
The fixed thermal element provides long-time protection by tripping in response to sustained overloads. The fixed magnetic element provides instantaneous protection, tripping immediately when it detects high-fault short circuits.

Yes. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer and continues to manufacture the CHB series as direct, factory-approved replacements for legacy Cutler-Hammer PB and PH panelboards.

Parcel shipments with item value over $99 qualify for free economy shipping within the continental US. Please call to confirm special handling instructions. We do not charge a handling fee or require a minimum amount on any order. SuperBreakers does not ship on customer accounts.

Expedited Shipments
