6 answersWhat is the difference between Eaton FD and HFD circuit breakers?
Both belong to the Eaton Series C F-frame family and share the exact same physical dimensions and mounting footprint. The difference lies in their short-circuit interrupting capacity. The HFD is the high-interrupting version, whereas the standard FD frame has lower fault ratings.
Can the Eaton HFD3150 replace an older Westinghouse HFD3150?
Yes. Eaton acquired the Westinghouse distribution equipment business and continues to manufacture the Series C line. The current Eaton HFD3150 is a direct, UL-listed drop-in replacement for legacy Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse breakers bearing the same catalog number.
Is the HFD3150 suitable for reverse feed installations?
Yes. Eaton Series C F-frame thermal-magnetic breakers, including this 150A model, do not have line and load side restrictions. They are fully tested and approved for reverse feed applications.
Can this breaker be installed in a residential load center?
No. The HFD3150 is a panel-mount, molded case circuit breaker designed for commercial and industrial Eaton Series C panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers. It will not physically fit or connect into standard plug-on residential breaker boxes.
What is required to use this breaker in a 250VDC system?
While this breaker is rated for up to 250VDC, applying a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker in a DC circuit typically requires specific pole-wiring configurations, such as wiring multiple poles in series, to safely clear DC faults. Electricians must consult the manufacturer's DC wiring diagrams prior to installation.

Expedited Shipments
