No. The HFD3225 features a non-interchangeable trip unit with fixed thermal (overload) and fixed magnetic (short-circuit) settings.
Does this circuit breaker come with lugs on both the line and load sides?
By standard factory configuration, F-frame breakers like the HFD3225 are supplied with load-side lugs only. If you need factory-installed line and load terminals, look for the catalog number HFD3225L, or purchase standard line terminals separately.
What is the standard terminal replacement kit for the HFD3225?
The standard aluminum pressure terminal kit for 225A F-Frame breakers is catalog number 3TA225FD, which accepts 4 AWG to 4/0 AWG wire.
Can I use oversized wire with this 225A breaker?
Yes. If your application requires larger conductors, you can install the optional 3TA225FDK terminal kit. This kit accommodates wire sizes from 6 AWG up to 300 kcmil and includes the required terminal shield to maintain safe electrical clearances.
Is the Eaton HFD3225 suitable for reverse feed applications?
Yes. Eaton Series C F-Frame thermal-magnetic breakers, including the HFD3225, do not have line and load restrictions and are approved for reverse feed installations.
Is this breaker HACR rated for HVAC equipment?
Yes. All Eaton Series C F-Frame molded case circuit breakers carry a Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HACR) rating for protecting HVAC branch circuits.
What is the difference between the HFD3225 and the FD3225?
The difference is the interrupting capacity. The HFD3225 is rated for 65 kAIC at 480VAC, while the standard FD3225 is rated for 35 kAIC at 480VAC. Both share the exact same physical F-Frame dimensions and mounting requirements.
What is the difference between the HFD3225 and the FDC3225?
The FDC3225 offers an even higher interrupting capacity of 100 kAIC at 480VAC, compared to the 65 kAIC rating of the HFD3225. Both are 225A, 3-pole, Series C F-Frame breakers.
Does this circuit breaker fit into older Cutler-Hammer switchboards?
Yes. The HFD3225 is fully backward compatible with Eaton and legacy Cutler-Hammer Series C panelboards, motor control centers, and switchboards that accept F-Frame breakers.
Does the HFD3225 provide ground fault protection?
No. This is a standard thermal-magnetic breaker providing long-time overload and instantaneous short-circuit protection (LI) only. It does not have integrated ground fault equipment protection (GFEP).
