This F-Frame breaker is designed for use in Eaton and Cutler-Hammer Series C panelboards, Pow-R-Line panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers. It requires a bolt-on connection to the bus.
Will this breaker fit in a standard residential load center?
No. The HFD1045 is a commercial and industrial molded case circuit breaker. It will not fit in standard residential plug-on or bolt-on load centers, such as the Eaton BR or CH series.
What is the difference between the HFD1045 and a standard FD1045 breaker?
The 'H' in the HFD prefix designates a high interrupting capacity. While a standard FD breaker typically offers 35kAIC at 277VAC, the HFD1045 provides a higher 65kAIC rating at 277VAC for systems with greater available fault current.
Can I use the Eaton HFD1045 to replace an older Cutler-Hammer HFD1045?
Yes. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer and continues to manufacture the Series C product line. A modern Eaton HFD1045 offers the exact same form, fit, and function as a legacy Cutler-Hammer breaker with the identical catalog number.
What wire sizes are accepted by the terminals on this breaker?
The factory-installed lugs accept wire gauges from 14 AWG up to 1/0 AWG. The terminals are rated for both copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) conductors. Always ensure proper torque specifications are followed during installation as outlined on the breaker label.
Is the HFD1045 suitable for DC voltage applications?
Yes, this breaker is rated for up to 125VDC with a 10kAIC interrupting capacity, making it suitable for specific direct current control circuits and battery backup systems.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip unit function on this breaker?
The fixed thermal element provides long-time (L) protection by heating up and tripping during sustained overloads. The fixed magnetic element provides instantaneous (I) protection by reacting immediately to high-current short circuits.

Parcel shipments with item value over $99 qualify for free economy shipping within the continental US. Please call to confirm special handling instructions. We do not charge a handling fee or require a minimum amount on any order. SuperBreakers does not ship on customer accounts.
Same Day Shipping

Expedited Shipments
Orders being shipped via Next Day Air, 2 Day Shipping or 3 Day Shipping must be received by 3 PM EST to guarantee same-day shipments. Expedited orders only ship on normal business days. Shipments will NOT be sent out on Saturdays and Sundays.
