Built for demanding industrial environments, the Siemens ED23B045 is a 3-pole, 45A molded case circuit breaker. As part of the Sentron ED2 series, it delivers fixed thermal-magnetic protection for 240VAC circuits. The bolt-on design ensures a robust connection within Siemens P2 and P3 panelboards. It comes equipped with load side lugs that accommodate 10-1/0 AWG conductors. With a 10kAIC rating at 240V, this HACR-rated breaker supports reverse feed applications for installation flexibility.
Which panelboards are compatible with the ED23B045 circuit breaker?
The ED23B045 is designed for use in Siemens P2 and P3 panelboards, as well as Sentron panelboards and switchboards. It is also backward compatible with many legacy ITE Sentron panels that accept bolt-on ED-frame breakers.
What wire sizes do the standard lugs on the ED23B045 accept?
The factory-installed load-side lugs accommodate copper or aluminum conductors ranging from 10 AWG to 1/0 AWG.
Can the ED23B045 be reverse fed?
Yes, this standard thermal-magnetic ED-frame breaker is suitable for reverse feed applications, allowing for installation flexibility in your panelboard.
Is the ED23B045 rated for direct current (DC) applications?
Yes, in addition to its 240VAC rating, this breaker is rated for up to 250VDC with an interrupting capacity of 5kAIC, making it suitable for specific DC control or distribution circuits.
Does the ED23B045 carry an HACR rating?
Yes, this breaker is HACR rated, meaning it is approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
What is the difference between the Siemens ED23B045 and the ED43B045?
The primary difference is the interrupting capacity. The ED23B045 (ED2 frame) is rated at 10kAIC at 240VAC, while the ED43B045 (ED4 frame) provides a higher interrupting rating of 65kAIC at 240VAC and 18kAIC at 480VAC. Both share the same physical dimensions and mounting.
Does this breaker require a plug-on or bolt-on connection?
The ED23B045 utilizes a bolt-on connection, meaning it securely fastens to the panelboard bus using mounting screws to provide superior mechanical stability under fault conditions.
Can I install this Siemens ED-frame breaker in a panelboard from another manufacturer?
No, installing a Siemens breaker in a panelboard from a different manufacturer violates the UL listing and creates a safety hazard, unless the panel is explicitly UL-classified to accept Siemens ED-frame breakers.
Can the ED23B045 be locked out for maintenance?
Yes, you can install a compatible padlock attachment, such as the Siemens ED2HPL, to lock the breaker handle in the OFF position for safe lockout and tagout procedures.
