Built to safeguard critical machinery, this 20-amp, two-pole GFEP breaker delivers a 30mA ground-fault trip sensitivity. The Siemens QE220 is designed for residential and commercial applications where equipment-level protection is required. Featuring a standard plug-on mounting style, it easily installs into Siemens load centers and P1 panelboards. It serves as a replacement for the older Q220EG SKU. With a 10 kAIC interrupting capacity, this thermal-magnetic breaker includes HACR ratings.
What is the difference between the QE220 GFEP breaker and a standard GFCI breaker?
The QE220 is a Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) breaker with a 30mA trip threshold designed to protect machinery, such as heat tracing or industrial equipment. Standard Class A GFCI breakers, like the Siemens QPF series, have a 5mA threshold specifically required for personnel protection.
Which panels are compatible with the Siemens QE220?
This plug-on QE frame breaker is compatible with Siemens load centers and Siemens P1 panelboards that accept standard 1-inch per pole QP or QE type breakers.
Does the Siemens QE220 require a neutral connection to function?
Yes, the QE220 is equipped with a pigtail neutral wire that must be landed directly on the neutral bus bar of the panel for the ground fault equipment protection circuitry to operate properly.
What is the direct replacement for the obsolete Siemens Q220EG circuit breaker?
The Siemens QE220 is the direct, current-generation replacement for the older Q220EG catalog number. Both share the same 20-amp, 2-pole, 30mA GFEP specifications and plug-on footprint.
How should the ground fault protection be verified after installing the QE220?
Once installed and the circuit is energized, press the TEST button located on the face of the breaker. The breaker must trip immediately to confirm the equipment protection circuitry is functioning correctly.
Can the QE220 be used in applications requiring 5mA personnel protection?
No. The QE220 is strictly a 30mA equipment protection breaker. Code applications requiring personnel protection, such as wet locations or bathrooms, must use a Class A 5mA GFCI breaker instead.
