Yes. The PowerPacT B-frame is designed with the same 1.5 inch per pole width as legacy F-frame breakers. This allows it to install easily into existing I-Line panelboards and switchboards without needing blank fillers.
Can the BGA36040 replace an older FA36040 circuit breaker?
Yes. The BGA36040 serves as a modern replacement for the obsolete FA36040 I-Line breaker. The PowerPacT B-frame maintains the same mounting footprint while offering upgraded performance ratings.
What is the tightening torque for the load lugs on the BGA36040?
The mechanical load lugs should be torqued to 31.9 to 38.9 lb-in for 14 to 10 AWG wire, and 44.3 to 54.9 lb-in for 8 to 2/0 AWG wire.
How does this breaker connect to the I-Line bus?
The BGA36040 features a plug-on jaw connection on the line side that snaps directly onto the panelboard busbars. The load side utilizes standard mechanical lugs for wire termination.
What does the G in the BGA series part number signify?
The G indicates the interrupting capacity tier within the PowerPacT B-frame family. For this breaker, the G tier provides a maximum interrupting rating of 35kA at 480VAC and 65kA at 240VAC.
Is the BGA36040 rated for DC voltage applications?
Yes. In addition to its AC ratings, this circuit breaker is rated for up to 250VDC with an interrupting capacity of 20kA. This makes it suitable for specific DC distribution systems.
What does a fixed thermal, fixed magnetic trip unit mean for this breaker?
It means the overcurrent and short-circuit trip thresholds are factory preset and cannot be adjusted in the field. The long-time and instantaneous trip points are permanently calibrated to safely protect a 40A circuit.
Is the BGA36040 rated for 100 percent continuous duty?
No. Like most standard molded case circuit breakers, the BGA36040 has an 80 percent continuous current rating. This means continuous loads lasting three hours or more should not exceed 32 amps.

Expedited Shipments
