This E-frame breaker is designed exclusively for bolt-on installation in Square D NF series panelboards. It will not fit in NQ, I-Line, or QO load centers.
What is the difference between the EDB36040, EGB36040, and EJB36040?
The difference is the interrupting rating. The EDB36040 is the standard tier rated at 18kAIC at 480Y/277V. The EGB36040 is rated for 35kAIC, and the EJB36040 is rated for 65kAIC at the same voltage. All three share the same physical dimensions and fit the same NF panelboards.
Can the EDB36040 be installed on a 480V or 600V ungrounded delta system?
No. The EDB36040 has a slash voltage rating of 480Y/277V and 600Y/347V. This means it is only approved for use on solidly grounded wye systems where the voltage to ground does not exceed 277V or 347V. It is not rated for straight 480V or 600V delta systems.
Is the EDB36040 rated for 100 percent continuous duty?
No, standard Square D E-frame breakers are 80 percent rated. For continuous loads lasting three hours or more, the maximum load should not exceed 32 amps, which is 80 percent of its 40-amp rating.
What is the recommended lug torque for the EDB36040?
For the standard factory lugs, the tightening torque is 34.5 lb-in for 14 to 10 AWG wire, and 49.6 lb-in for 8 to 2/0 AWG wire. Always verify the exact torque specifications printed on the breaker label before terminating conductors.
Do I need a separate mounting kit to install this breaker?
No additional mounting hardware is required. The EDB36040 features integrated bolt-on connectors that secure directly to the bus bars of a Square D NF panelboard.
