Product FAQs
7 answers
Which panelboards accept the EGB34080SA circuit breaker?
This E-frame breaker is specifically designed for bolt-on installation in Square D NF series panelboards. It is not compatible with NQ or I-Line panelboards.
What does the "SA" suffix mean on the EGB34080SA catalog number?
The "SA" suffix indicates that the breaker includes a factory-installed 120VAC shunt trip. This feature allows the breaker to be tripped remotely via a control signal, which is commonly used for emergency shutdowns or fire alarm system integration.
Can I add a shunt trip to a standard EGB34080 breaker in the field?
No. For Square D E-frame circuit breakers, shunt trips are factory-installed only and cannot be added in the field. If your application requires remote tripping, you must order the EGB34080SA.
Does the factory-installed shunt trip on the EGB34080SA require additional panel space?
Yes, the factory-installed shunt trip occupies an additional pole space in the NF panelboard. Plan your panel layout accordingly to accommodate the extra width.
What are the acceptable wire sizes for the EGB34080SA terminals?
The built-in lugs accept 14 to 2/0 AWG copper (Cu) conductors or 12 to 2/0 AWG aluminum (Al) conductors. Ensure proper torque specifications are followed during installation.
Can the EGB34080SA be used on a straight 480V delta system?
No, the 480Y/277VAC rating indicates it is designed for solidly grounded wye systems where the voltage to ground does not exceed 277V. It is not rated for ungrounded or corner-grounded 480V delta systems.
How does the thermal-magnetic trip unit function on this breaker?
The thermal-magnetic mechanism provides dual protection: the thermal component responds to sustained overloads (Long-Time) by heating a bimetallic strip, while the magnetic component responds immediately to severe short circuits (Instantaneous). Both trip points are fixed.
