The second letter in the catalog number indicates the short-circuit interrupting rating tier within the PowerPacT series. The L-class provides the highest interrupting capacity for the thermal-magnetic H-Frame, delivering up to 125 kA at 240VAC and 100 kA at 480VAC.
Can the HLL36100 be used to replace a discontinued FCL36100 breaker?
Yes. The PowerPacT H-Frame series replaces legacy Square D F-Frame breakers, including the 100 kA rated FCL. However, the H-Frame footprint is slightly larger (6.4 inches tall). When retrofitting, expect to drill new mounting holes in your backpan and adjust for wire bending space.
What are the instantaneous magnetic trip set points for this 100A breaker?
The HLL36100 features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. The magnetic hold current is calibrated to 900 A, and the instantaneous trip current is fixed at 1700 A.
What is the terminal torque specification for the standard AL150HD lugs?
Using a 3/16-inch hex wrench, torque the wire binding screws to 44 lb-in (5 N.m) for 14 AWG to 10 AWG conductors, and 120 lb-in (14 N.m) for 8 AWG to 3/0 AWG conductors.
Can the HLL36100 be reverse fed?
Yes. Standard unit-mount PowerPacT H-Frame circuit breakers with thermal-magnetic trip units are factory-sealed and do not have line/load orientation restrictions, making them fully suitable for reverse feeding applications.
Are internal accessories field-installable on this model?
Yes. Shunt trips, undervoltage releases, and auxiliary switch modules can be field-installed. They mount directly into dedicated accessory compartments located beneath the removable front cover.
Does this breaker snap onto a panelboard bus?
No. The HLL36100 is a unit-mount (feed-thru) breaker. It must be bolted directly to a backpan or mounting plate inside a control panel, switchboard, or enclosure. It cannot be plugged into I-Line distribution panels.
