Product FAQs
7 answers
How is the HLL36150 mounted in an electrical system?
This is a unit-mount breaker, meaning it fastens directly to a backpan or mounting plate using screws. It does not plug onto a busbar and is not compatible with I-Line panelboards. It uses feed-thru lug connections on both the line and load sides.
Can I install the HLL36150 in a Square D I-Line panelboard?
No. The HLL36150 is a unit-mount breaker designed for control panels, switchboards, and standalone enclosures. For an I-Line panelboard, you need an I-Line version of the PowerPacT H-frame, such as the HLA36150.
What does the L interrupting rating indicate on this PowerPacT breaker?
The L in the HLL prefix indicates a very high interrupting capacity. It is rated to safely clear fault currents up to 125kA at 240VAC, 100kA at 480VAC, and 50kA at 600VAC, making it suitable for systems with high available fault current.
What wire sizes and materials are supported by the factory lugs?
The standard lugs on this breaker accept conductor sizes from 14 AWG up to 3/0 AWG. They are dual-rated for use with either aluminum or copper wire.
Is this breaker suitable for direct current (DC) applications?
Yes, the HLL36150 is rated for use in DC circuits. It carries an interrupting rating of 20kA at 250VDC and 50kA at 500VDC.
Can I adjust the trip settings on the HLL36150?
No. This breaker uses a thermal-magnetic trip unit with fixed long-time and fixed instantaneous trip functions. It does not offer adjustable dials. Applications requiring adjustable trip curves need a breaker equipped with a Micrologic electronic trip unit.
Can the HLL36150 replace an HDA36150, HGA36150, or HJA36150?
Yes. The HLL36150 shares the exact same physical dimensions and 150A rating as the D, G, and J interrupting tier models. Because the L-tier has a higher interrupting capacity (100kA at 480VAC), it is a safe and code-compliant upgrade for systems originally specifying lower-rated H-frame breakers.
